Description:

We spent the first night on our way to the Big Red Bash here – and what a great way to kick off the trip! I’t’s such a cute park, nestled in among  the trees just on the edge of town.

We were greeted by friendly staff, found our lovely grassy site (no prickles!) easily and were set up in no time.

Chris worked on the car and I had a wander around.

The grounds are spacious, grassy, very green and immaculate. It was really easy to park the van with plenty of room to maneuver (not that Chris ever does – he usually nails it first go! Lol).

We had relaxing views out all windows that made us all smile. Especially as the sun was setting and rising over the large open filed behind us – that was just spectacular.

The amenities are so clean and just lovely.

There is a great camp kitchen with awesome central fireplace, TV, BBQ’s, fridge etc. and a pizza oven (!) amongst other things. It is very well appointed.

The pool looks lovely, and I wish we’d had time and warmer weather to hop in! Next time ….

Big Rig Tourist Park, Roma Review

Big Rig Tourist Park, Roma Review

Name: Big Rig Tourist Park

Location: Roma, QLD

Date of Stay: July 14, 2018

Type of Park: Town

Rating: 3.5

Description:

We pulled in a bit before 3:30 on our way back from the Big Red Bash out on the edge of the Simpson Desert. It’s a Top Tourist Park and had the best reviews when we were looking up where to stay.

The guy behind the counter was friendly and we found our site easily.

Chris didn’t want to unhook the van, so we just pushed back past the slab. We didn’t even hook the water up as we had plenty left in the tanks.

The girls went over to check out the lovely little (unheated) pool and I had a wander around the park.

It’s located right on the road, but traffic noise wasn’t a problem at all from where we were parked.

The amenities are dated but clean and well maintained. There are 2 toilet and laundry blocks, a camp kitchen and a small swimming pool. There are also cabins as well as van sites.

It’s not a huge park but has all we needed for our stopover.

Facilities

  • 2 amenities blocks
  • Laundry with $4 machines
  • Small, cold but lovely looking swimming pool
  • Camp kitchen with toaster, kettle, tables, sinks, fridge and an old BBQ.
  • Dump point
  • Wi-fi

Staff

The gentleman at reception was pleasant and helpful.

Sites

A combination of (powered) slab and grass sites; some level and some not. Some were bigger than others.

Positives

  • Minimal road noise, even though on a main road.
  • You can walk to the Big Rig Tourist attraction.
  • Short walk to shops and pub.
  • Convenient overnight spot
  • Next door is a lovely park with ducks, geese, wild water birds and picnic tables.

Negatives:

  • No fence surrounding the park = no security
  • Older amenities that could use a makeover

Hastings Point by Aylah

Hastings Point by Aylah

Hastings point is one of the best places on earth. It only takes about an hour and a half to get there from Brisbane which is great as you don’t have to spend ages in the car! Do you want to know what you can do there? I’d love to tell you 🙂

Here are a couple of things. Firstly there is an awesome indoor playground that is called Neptune’s Castle. All you have to do to get in, is have your parents  sign you in. After that you can do lots of activities. In kids club there is a massive play fort where we play all sorts of games and do crafts. Doesn’t it sound awesome already? But guess what, that is just the beginning…

Neptune’s Castle

The second thing that I love is the pool and the waterpark. I love the pool and the water slides, they are the best. Once my dad took photos of me, Charli and Miriam on the water slide and Miriam had uploaded them to Facebook. The park loved our photos and we won a competition which gave us a free weekend at the caravan park. We have stayed here 4 times now. In summer and in winter and in between!

There is also an adult pool and massage place, so the adults don’t have to deal with their kids. The parents usually go there or to the beach while we play in Neptune’s Castle.

The waterpark is my favourite!

The beach is right across the road too, and it’s so much fun! There are also bike tracks and a skate park near by. The little town is close to and have really yummy fish and chips.

There is also a really cozy Indoor movie theatre, where they play really enjoyable movies for the whole family. We got to go to most movies they played, and they were so enjoyable to watch.

Did you know that there is also a tennis court? In the tennis court, there are many activities, in one of the activities you ride around the tennis court on little buggies, it is so much fun. On the outside of the tennis court there is a chess board, if you like chess, then this is the place for you. Oh, and also there is a barbeque in front of the tennis court, so whilst the kids are playing in the courts or playing chess, the parents can relax and cook dinner on the barbeque.

Let’s not forget about the games room and the outdoor playground next to it. The games room has a variety of fun games like tabel tennis, and a small, free playroom for the little kids.

Next to the games room, there is a huge outdoor playground for all ages. One side of the playground is for the children ages 2-8, and another side for ages 9-12. Even though I’m supposed to play on the side for the older children, I do admit that the little kids playground is pretty fun to play on as well.

We love to play ping pong, and the little stage inside is great to do crafts on if it’s raining outside!

This is the best place to go if you’re looking for a place to stay over the weekend or the holidays and is great for both adults and children.

Date of Stay: May 2018

Type of Park: Beachfront

Rating: 5/5 (Chris said 6 out of 5!)

Description:

We had heard plenty of positive reviews about this ‘amazing newly renovated caravan park in Kingscliff’ and while sitting around the caravans with friends at Sawtell this Easter discussing what the next ‘special event’ was, we discovered it was Chris’s birthday and booked our spots right away. We were lucky and all but one of us in the group managed to secure the premium beach front sites we had heard so much about. This park books out well in advance!

We arrived at a stunning and modern holiday park that is indeed located on absolute beach frontage in the heart of Kingscliff.

The sun was setting as were checking in, and the sky was the most incredible hues of pink I had ever seen! Before we had even made it to the site, I was on the beach taking perfect photo after perfect photo.

The park is just metres from an array of cafes and boutique stores. With a bowls club to one side, a fantastic park to the other, the Kingscliff Beach Hotel directly across the street and a breathtaking expanse of ocean out the front, this really is the ideal park in the ideal location.

This trip is in honour of Chris’s 43rd birthday and we are sharing it with some wonderful friends; most with caravans and with one family who are staying in the units across the road.

We have kids ranging from a few months old right up to 15 and many ages in between! Our kids (10, 12 and 13) had a ball riding, surfing, playing and just ‘being kids’. It’s great to see what they get up to when you remove their devices.

It has rained on and off for the first day, but even so, it was lovely. I came prepared with gumboots and a raincoat, a beanie and some warm clothes and I’m as cozy as can be.

The first evening was spent having drinks with our friends around the vans while the kids rode around and hung out in the camp kitchen. The first night was spent listening to the sounds of the waves, the rain on the roof and the distant strains of the live band from the Kingscliff Beach Hotel as they belted out tunes like Rolling on the River to the applause from the crowd.

The next morning I was up early to capture some new sunrise shots on the beach out the front of the park. What started as a 20 minute outing turned into a 90 minute walk on the sand down to the break wall and river and back through the parks dotted along the way.

I must say I was completely blown away by absolutely everything I saw. There has been so much thought put into the design and layout; from the table tennis table (with artwork and bats!), lounge chairs, trees, paths, undercover areas (with beachy artwork), lush grassy areas and of course views that take your breath away each time they appear through the trees.

The Surf Club located right next to the park does a HUGE and ridiculusly delicious breakfast. The staff were lovely and so helpful when I mentioned that I didn’t eat eggs or gluten. The chef came up with all sorts of alternatives that kept my tummy very happy 🙂

Kingscliff is a magic little town, and this is definitely our new favourite place.

The staff at the park are incredibly friendly, the grounds and amenities are immaculate, and Chris has said that he could ‘live here in a permanent van forever’. It’s his favourite camp ground yet – and that’s a pretty big call! Being a surfer, it’s easy to see why he feels this way – all you have to do is look out the window of the van to see perfection.

Facilities:
  • Fully accessible, clean and new amenities
  • Camp Kitchen
  • Beach Access Walkways
  • Sheltered Barbecues
  • Wi-Fi
Staff:

We found the staff to be incredibly friendly and accommodating both on the phone and in person. When we arrived, another couple was setting up their van in our site. The staff were wonderful when faced with this problematic start to our weekend, and we were parked in our absolute beach frontage site without too much delay.

Sites:

• Powered Tent Sites with Synthetic Grass
• Tourist Sites with Double Wide Slabs
• Beachfront Tourist Sites (this is what we stayed on)
• Tourist Sites with Ensuites
• Luxury Beachfront Cabins

Positives:

Everything!

  • Views
  • Location
  • Staff
  • Park grounds
  • Suitability – it’s great for couples, singles, families, groups of friends and any other combination!
Negatives:
  • No swimming pool or play equipment. A pool might have been nice in the colder weather (if it was heated). There is no playground, play equipment or games room either, but there is the park next door with bike paths and the beach out the front. So, it’s not really a negative … more of an observation.
  • No pets allowed. This isn’t a negative to us, but it might be for some.
  • No shelter anywhere – a gazebo would be a necessity in the warmer weather.

Broadwater Tourist Park

Broadwater Tourist Park

Name: Broadwater Tourist Park (Gold Coast Tourist Parks)

Location: 169 Marine Parade, Southport, QLD

Date of Stay:  27-29 April 2018

Type of Park: City/Water/Parklands

Rating: 4 out of 5

Description:

A well maintained park, great for families, couples or singles in a great location.

We have stayed here many, many times… And we love it! My first Trip Advisor review on this park was done back in 2016, and that was written after returning on many occasions.

The park is situated right on the beautiful Broadwater, and has million-dollar views.

It had a foreshore makeover a couple of years ago, and now there is lots of lush, grass between the park and the sand. It’s great for kids… And kites. I do believe on one occasion that particular strip of grass was used as a race track between the local police on their quad bike and our youngest who was on her push bike!

The inlet is a great little spot to take the kids fishing as the sun goes down. It’s also where the boat ramp is located, giving easy access to the water for us to launch our jetski! Many of our friends come to this park purely because it is so easy to get the ski’s and boats into the water as the ramp is located within the park itself.

The amenities are good (there are a few blocks), camp kitchens are well appointed and very well maintained, as are the grounds.

There are many cabins… Lots right on the water with stunning views and some further back in the park.

Staff are friendly and very helpful.

Both swimming pools are great… The big shade is great for kids in the hot summer sun. The girls went swimming this weekend, but only for a few minutes as it was ‘freeeezing!!!’ So, I guess heated pools could make this park even better (hint hint!).

We have been telling the kids to ‘go and entertain yourselves’ at this park for a few years now, and currently at ages 10, 12 and 13, they still haven’t outgrown the playground, games room and jumping pillow which is a good thing J

We rate this park highly as it’s consistently produced fun and memorable times no matter if it’s our family of 5, just me and Chris, our friends with kids or our friends without.

Facilities:

  • Boat ramp
  • 2 pools
  • Tennis court
  • Jumping pillow
  • Playground
  • Recreation room
  • Camp kitchen
  • BBQ areas

Staff:

  • Friendly and helpful

Sites:

200+ sites including water view, ensuite, powered slab and powered grass sites. Large and flat – easy to get in and out of.

Positives:

  • Location – it is close to Surfers, the Broadwater and the parklands which are great to ride to with the kids. The aqua splash is set up just down the path, and there is a fun little waterpark for the kids to have a play in.
  • Maccas is over the street if you like their coffee – if not, the Donut Shop D Point Ten makes great coffee. There is a supermarket and some other little shops right across the street as well.
  • Well maintained
  • Clean, well appointed and relatively modern amenities

Negatives:

  • We had heard of many people having items stolen from this park and considered ourselves lucky as it hadn’t happened to us – until Australia Day 2017. Cooper’s near new scooter was stolen one night along with quite a few things belonging to other people. It is commonplace to see people chain their Weber’s down to deter theft.
  • It can get very busy during the school holidays (this could be negative or positive – it depends on if you like lots of people! J )
  • It’s quite loud due to the location – you will hear sirens, cars racing and loud engines through the night. But this is to be expected as Surfers is less than 5ks away.
  • The park is quite strict on the 10am check out time.
  • The beach/Broadwater out the front can be overcrowded with PWC (which again is to be expected in most waterways on the Gold Coast).
